MANKIND AND NATURE

Humanity is a part of the functioning which is called as ecosystem. During the recent centuries, people have acted within an unprecedented ambition to bring this functioning and their own kind under control. Excessive consumerism has carried people to a point which destroys ecosystem, the basis of self-existence of people.

Nec is a manifest; it questions our perception of cities and our life styles. In Nec, the need of food is met in an ecologic way, is consumed and the waste is returned to production by recycling. The city has been built on the transportation network and in this way, the use of surface has been decreased to minimum. So that the solid is able to respond to people’s needs and it is set free in a respectful way to ecosystem. Nec handles transportation, movement and life together.

The Biofi and Starfish projects are in an ideational persistency with Nec. By levitating the structures, movements on the ground have not been interfered; in Starfish vehicles, tram and pedestrians, in Biofi animals and microorganisms. On platform, Starfish both bonds urban pedestrian dynamics to one another and creates a stop and rest area for citizens.

In Biofi, Kad and Odun, the planning, architecture and landscape have been designed parallel. In every phase of design, permaculture principles have been used. The aim is sharing the areas that people get into use with nature’s other components in a balanced way.

In Ski and Argos projects, spatial scenarios are built on human movements and relations with environment, and the openings of frontage frames the important environment components (forest, mountain, ski-runs etc.) according to individual’s position in the building.

CONTINUITY OF SPACE & TIME

People are always on the move. They exist with the move in time and space; this is why Buddhist priests tour around temples steadily; to reach the awareness of passing time.

In Ski and Argos, spaces are not divided with walls. The places for circulation and usage have been fictionalized on continuity to one another; the hallways have been removed, there is no physical border. Places (lobby, lounge, restaurants, game rooms etc.) are separated from each other with the differences in ambience and light rate.

In Biofi, Kad, Odun and Urbanplay, movement places have been fictionalized on creating awareness, each sequence offers new exploring about landscaping, life and ecosystem.

Private, semiprivate and public places are jointed to each other. The threshold places such as path, ramp and stairs turns into genuine places that have connection with the environment.

In Starfish, footbridge is a saved zone in which urban life continues.

On the other hand, Nec presents a new city system in which urban and rural life is intermingled and movement and life creates a whole. Urban life is connected to rural life with wide ramps. Nature and humans exist in a continuity and harmony together.

CONSTRUCTIVE APPROACH

Life is prefabricated. Prefabrication is a multi-directional constructive approach, with the correct technical choice, a faster and more economic construction is possible, this is the DNA of a building.

In Ski and Argos, the construction time for basic structure and facade-roof closures is limited to 6 months. With ferroconcrete prefabrication with posttensioning, both the world’s most efficient anti-seismic has been used and in inner places with 12mX12m modulation, a columnless open plan has been achieved. In Ski, the basic construction of 4.500 m² indoor area was finished in 6 weeks.

In Biofi, with cold steel system, all the primary structure was produced in 1 week and assembled in 6 weeks. This system’s anti-seismic feature also grabs attention and the level of sound disturbance given to bordering forest is low.

Also in Algeco, Bubbles and Starfish, the construction of the projects were envisioned with prefabricated elements.

In Nec, the city’s main structure carrying housing areas was designed in 100mX100m modulation with carbon material.
